 rero\, La Internacional\, will share her personal and artistic journey—re
 flecting on the influences that have shaped her path and what it means to c
 arry Afro-Peruvian and Criollo cultures across borders. Drawing from her ex
 perience as both a solo artist and the voice of the acclaimed band Novalima
 \, the conversation will explore music as a space of memory\, resistance\, 
 and creative expression.\nThe conversation will be guided by Roxana Escoba
 r Ñañez\, a decolonial scholar\, researcher\, and cultural practitioner f
 rom the University of Toronto\, whose work centres on Afro-Peruvian women
 ’s cultural practices and spatial narratives.\nThis event also serves as 
 a prelude to Novalima’s live concert in Vancouver on April 26\, offerin
 g a unique opportunity to connect with the stories and sounds behind their 
 music.\nAbout the Speakers\nMilagros Guerrero\, La InternacionalA renowned 
 performer of Afro-Peruvian and Criollo music\, actress\, and the voice of N
 ovalima\, Milagros Guerrero\, La Internacional brings over 35 years of arti
 stic experience across five continents. She has been nominated for the Lati
 n Grammy Awards (2009\, 2021) and the APDAYC Awards in multiple categories.
  Her work with Novalima has earned major recognitions\, including Best Fusi
 on Album and Best Electronic Music Album. She has been honoured by Peru’s
  Ministry of Culture\, and in 2025 was recognized as an honorary citizen of
  Barranco\, the district where she was born and raised\, for her outstandin
 g artistic career.\nRoxana Escobar ÑañezA decolonial scholar with a Ph.D.
  in Human Geography from the University of Toronto\, with a specialization 
 in Women and Gender Studies. Her research explores how Afro-Peruvian women 
 artists shape urban life through cultural practices such as music. Beyond a
 cademia\, she is a project leader\, policy consultant\, and host of the pod
 cast Tertulia Day. Her work bridges research\, art\, and community engagem
