In this special conversation, Milagros Guerrero, La Internacional, will share her personal and artistic journey—reflecting on the influences that have shaped her path and what it means to carry Afro-Peruvian and Criollo cultures across borders. Drawing from her experience as both a solo artist and the voice of the acclaimed band Novalima, the conversation will explore music as a space of memory, resistance, and creative expression.

The conversation will be guided by Roxana Escobar Ñañez, a decolonial scholar, researcher, and cultural practitioner from the University of Toronto, whose work centres on Afro-Peruvian women’s cultural practices and spatial narratives.

This event also serves as a prelude to Novalima’s live concert in Vancouver on April 26, offering a unique opportunity to connect with the stories and sounds behind their music.
