The traditional Day of the Dead installation at Granville Island is a heartfelt tribute to those who are no longer with us. We honor their memory by bringing photographs, candles, and flowers, celebrating one of Mexico’s and many Latin American countries’ most significant pre-Hispanic traditions. This tradition has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. As part of the celebrations, guided tours will be offered for school groups, primarily for secondary students. Additionally, on the weekend of October 31st–November 1st, workshops will be held to teach how to create an altar or ofrenda for the Day of the Dead, explaining the ancestral meanings behind each element used in the creation of the altar.
